Presidents Message:

I told Linda I'd try to write something this morning before I start pushing sandpaper again. Thanks to a medium size June-bug and a rather large mosquito looking thing with what seemed like 3" long legs, Bill and I have to re-shoot the hood on Bruces' 2000 tonight. (I hate doing things twice, especially sanding) Thanks to Mr. Bailey I'm learning all I need to know about 3 stage painting, the no. 1 thing is stay away from it. It's extremely difficult and horribly expensive.

I hope those who showed up for the bar-b-que diner at Elmers enjoyed themselves, I guess we'll do it again tomorrow night at the old Interurban, hope to see you there!!

If anyone has ideas for social events for the next month or two please bring them up at meeting next month.

Time to go sand, see you next week at meeting..............J.B.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting:

Competition Corvettes of Oklahoma

Minutes of June 3, 2009 Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 7:19pm

Motion was made by Linda Lewis to approve the May minutes. Kurt Lewis seconded.

VP Report -- Absent

Editor Report -- Absent

Treasurers Report -- Linda Lewis -- Money in bank.

Presidents Report -- Jim Barnes -- Club no longer has a Social Chairperson. Linda Bailey has arranged a get together at Elmers BBQ on Peoria on 6/13 at 7:30. Need to let Linda know whether or not you are coming. Meet there.

Membership Report -- Charlene Finley -- no changes.

Governors Report -- Tom Finley-- Dale sat in on Governors meeting in OKC. Reported on what they discussed:

  1. Discussed unused functions in the future. Concerned about clubs buying sanctions. No action taken.

  2. SW Region patches are available now. They are $2.00 each. Only one interested in purchasing is Charlene.

  3. SW Region is putting together phone book for people in need of assistance. If you are willing to put your name in the book, let Tom know. Governors are to put together list and be the contact person for the phone book. Is in the planning stages now.

  4. At the next regional Governors meeting, proposals will be due for major weekends next year. Need to think about what the club wants. Meeting will be August/September. Hallett has penciled us in, so that would be our date if we are going to do it again.

  5. SW Region points trail -- Megan Cone is 16th in Women, Tyler Lewis 30th in Mens.

  6. Need to clear up problem with checks for entrance fees for OK Thunder that was not taken care of yet.

  7. Dale was approached by James Garvin to see if we wanted their sanctions for next year. Dale said he would let him know later.

Insurance -- new changes that were proposed, after all the complaints, we are back to where we were originally. As long as event is published (newsletter, etc.) we are good to go. Governor will be sent certificate showing we are covered.

Results from OK Thunder have all been sent out. Couple of corrections had to be made and sent out, which has been done. People who did not sign waiver for Sat. did not get points. Some of workers did not get signed waivers, so did not get points for working. One person signed waiver on Sunday and did get points.

Upcoming Events:

June 6/7 -- OKC 7 low speeds on Sat and 4/7 on Sun for TVS Regional Fundraiser. Sheriffs track

June 13/14 -- 11 low speeds, Mineral Wells, TX

Convention 8/8 Colorado Springs -- NHRA Track, Shoulder Harness must be dated within 2 yers (not seatbelts)

Drag Records set in OKC. All record setters were from OKC Corvette Club except 1K Ladies.

OLD BUSINESS

Brian Finley researched new meeting place. 5 Options:

Silver Flame: 61st & Sheridan, upstairs private room

Johnny Carrinos: 41st & Sheridan or 91st & Delaware -- semiprivate or private room

Carrabas: 71st & 169, private room

Diamond Jacks: 71st & Yale, private room would be no fee if 25 or more eating, would possibly waive.

Baxters Interurban: Downtown, private room, microphone available

Kurt also suggested Napolis: 41st & Union or 31st & Garnett, not private but not busy

It was agreed to meet in El Chicos in July. Between now and then, the club would try to eat at the following: Johnny Carrinos, Diamond Jacks, Baxters, & Napolis; to see which one we like best. First one to try is Baxters on the 27th at 7:30.

Poster from OK Thunder: Motion was made to have Linda purchase raffle tickets which would be sold each month until Christmas Party, when drawing would be held for winner. Need not be present to win. Kurt Lewis made the motion, Charlene 2nd.

Linda will call Fairgrounds to see what dates are open in October to have a Non-NCCC event.

Discussion was held concerning possible name change. The following suggestions were made for consideration:

Greater Tulsa Corvettes (GTC)

Corvettes of Greater Tulsa (COGT)

Green Country Corvette Club (GCCC)

Tornado Alley Corvettes (TAC)

Metro Tulsa Corvettes (MTC)

Metro Corvettes of Tulsa (MCT)

Tulsa Corvette Club (TCC)

Bring more ideas next month to consider.

NEW BUSINESS

None

Motion was made by Tyler Lewis, Seconded by Linda Lewis to adjourn.

Respectfully submitted,

Melissa Wedlake

Corvette Trivia:

What extremely unusual component (for modern car) was used in the C5 Corvette?

The floor boards are made from balsa wood core. Balsa was used in the 1950s to make model airplanes. Reportedly, the specially-sourced Balsa Wood from South America, proved superior when tested against synthetic composite materials for a combination of strength and sound attenuation properties.
