Presidents Message:

First I'd like to apologize to everyone (especially Ms. Bailey) for holding up the newsletter this month, something always seems to get in the way.

I guess we all survived our event weekend okay, I haven't heard of any major nervous breakdowns (only minor ones). I know Tom and Charlene put in a lot of work and man hours getting the results done on time and send to region. I think we owe Tom a special thanks for all he's done in not only being event chairman and club govenor but in all the time he spent buying  the new equipment, computer and supplies then getting it all set up and working. I'm glad we don't pay him by the hour!

All four of our members who attended the driving school during Fridays "play day" passed with flying colors and went on to compete Sat. and Sun.  Congratulations Brian Wedlake, Megan, Chris, and Bruce Cone. (I haven't seen the results but Tom tells me Megan ran very close to one of the regions top lady drivers and I know she put it on her dad and brother..WELL DONE!!!)

SEE YOU AT MEETING NEXT WEEK..........JIM

  From the Governors Corner:

Does anyone know what today is? Well, In case you are interested, it is the day I finished the results for Hallett, no, Sunday is not done yet, we still have at least another day to go for that to be completed. I believe I have about 50 hours into the project so far and had to call in reinforcements for Excel spreadsheet support. My thanks to Charlene for dropping everything to run and help. The good news is, when we do this again I have some very good ideas as to where we can improve the way we do things, both on my end as well as several other areas. I do have to say this: A special thank you to ALL the people responsible for making this weekend happen, yes we did have some problems but that is to be expected with new timing gear and people doing things that up to now had help but in the overall scope of things, we made it happen! We will learn from our mistakes moving forward and next year we will be more prepared to make things run more smoothly. Enough of that.

I want to congratulate the Cones, Bruce, Christopher, and Megan. They took the driving school, completed it with flying colors, got their high speed licenses, ran the event and had what I would say, a fantastic event. They brought the car home in one piece and ran right up there with others in their class, a job well done! Did I hear that Megan is willing to give lessons??

Also. last but not least, Brian Wedlake also did the same with the same results. By the way, Brian, thanks for building the timing light boxes, they worked great. And I also have it on good authority that Melissa Wedlake did a fine job of posting times and keeping the rest of us in line. Thanks Melissa!

Although we didnt exactly have a record turnout for the Funkhana I think everyone that entered had a ball. I have a few pictures that I will try and get in the next newsletter if I have time. I can be bribed, Linda!

I am glad to report that John Sharp is recovering from his experience with the tire wall in turn 4. Although sore from the belts and his helmet hitting the roll bar, I think most of his problems resulted from Sue when he got home. Hang in there John!

Im sorry this got so long but you have to admit, there was a lot to tell, and a lot more that wont go in here. I will be on the road working next month but hope to make the June meeting. You all play nice at the May meeting now, ya hear! Ill miss my Mexican food fix and I doubt theyll have much of that in Seattle. Maybe thats where Ill be during the meeting??? I dont really know! All I know right now is I have a one way ticket to LA.

Tom

At that time Dale questioned why our club donation to the Regional Scholarship fund had not been recognized by Regional in their accounting. There are new rules for unclaimed sanctions for 1st Choice Weekends. Southwest Regional 50th Anniversary patches will soon be available. Contact the Regional website for more information. Dale was reimbursed for attending the Regional Governors Meeting.

We received a memo from John Sharp regarding the Play Day at Hallett. The cost will be $250.00 per car for the day. If interested contact Tom Finley.

OLD BUSINESS

Discussion was held about relocating our meeting place. The discussion was tabled until next month. We will check on the availability of different libraries.

A name change for the club was also tabled until next month.

OKLAHOMA THUNDER: April 17, 18, 19TH. Tom reported that we needed red flags for the corner workers. They are available at Truck Pro. Kurt Lewis will get 6 flags.

Radio rental for Sunday is available through Jan McCormick, Radio Rental Specialties. The person in charge of Hospitality could pick up the radios and headsets. Brian Finley volunteered his wife, Sherice, to be the person to take of getting the beer and pop and icing them down for the hospitality room at the hotel.

Kurt Lewis will bring the club trailer to the fairgrounds for timing on Sunday. Gates open at Hallett at 6:00 am and the fairgrounds at 7:00 am. We need workers there at those times. Drivers meeting both days will be at 8:30 am.

We will have one more practice session with the lights at Jim Barnes, Sunday at 2:00 pm. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Brian Wedlake for making the timing light boxes.

Corvette Trivia: May

On July 2, 1992 in Bowling Green Kentucky, a white Corvette roadster with red interior rolled down the assembly line. It marked what milestone in the number of Corvettes built?

  1. 750,000

  2. 1,250,000

  3. 1,500,000

  4. 1,000,000

Chevrolet deliberately arranged for the 1,000,000th car to be white with a reed interior to show the continuity of the original concept. The headrest also had unique embroidery proclaiming the car’s historical status.
